Male Bald Eagle Sketch-1st layers painted
Hi All Artist Hearts!  Finally Paint to Paper!!

All the major research and problem solving for the composition for Family Affair is completed.  Finally I am at the most fun part of the entire process....PAINT TO PAPER!   I know you have all been waiting patiently for this day and now we can get to the heart of this piece and enjoy the rest of the process.

The first base layers is a very simple combination of Van Dyke Brown and Thalo Blue, giving me a soft cool sepia tone for all the underside feathers and tree branches.  I am using both Aureolin Yellow and Indian Yellow for the beaks and feet and greying these yellows down for the shadow work.

It is quite a complicated piece with many intricate details and so it will take a little extra care and time to lay the foundations for these important story-telling tidbits.

I have spent over 3 very enjoyable hours so far.   So I better get back to my brushes and not keep you all waiting.

If you have any questions please send me a note and I will do my best to answer them.  Send your questions to

Watch for the next installment...until then happy painting.
