Hi All Artist's Hearts,
Stage 2 of Carol's Rose includes the first pigment under washes of Indian Yellow and Aureolin Yellow to set the values and tonal map for this painting.  The mood and setting for this rose will be different than some of my other roses which were composed in bright, sunny settings in cheerful summer gardens.

This is simply because we are viewing this particular rose as it remained standing after a violent rain storm and the darkness that surrounded this fragile plant.  It is a story of triumph over tragedy and "treasure out of darkness" where a hint of warmth and sunshine are finally visible, breathing a sense of hope and rescue into the scene.

The Scripture text is from Isaiah 41:10a where God says, "Fear not for I am with you.  I will strengthen and help you."  No matter the storms in our life we can trust the promise of the Lord to "never leave us nor forsake us" if we but trust His unfailing Love and rest in His Salvation.

Watch for Stage 3 as we progress in our next layers and washes.  Until then, happy painting.
Blessings, Jan.
